Atlanta: Days One and Two

For the past six years we have traveled down to the Keys for a chance to hang with Jeff and have some fun in the sun. Now that Jeff and Laura are living in Atlanta, our travels took us north, instead of south this year. Our first day there led us to the Reptile Show. Mom and dad came along too for some turtles, lizards, and snakes.

That night we met Jeff and Laura in the park for a picnic dinner and some playground time.

The following day, some of us decided to brave the subway system. The journey took longer than expected and involved more walking that expected (thanks to some bad advice from a subway employee), but the kids were troopers!

Our subway ride finally led us to the Georgia Aquarium, Jeff's new stomping grounds. We got an awesome behind-the-scenes tour. We didn't get to see any of the up and coming dolphin exhibits because they are top secret (OOooooooo!!) but we got to see belugas, whale sharks, and this cool man-made tide pool in the picture below.

The Ocean Voyager tank was my favorite part of the Georgia Aquarium. It is the largest aquarium in the world with 6.3 million gallons of water, four whale sharks, 3 manta rays, and tons of other fish. I could have sat there and watched for a long time, but our hungry bellies were calling us to move onward!

Our private tour guide!

This trip involved some really yummy food! My personal fave was Gladys and Ron's Chicken and Waffles. It was one of those meals that I won't forget for a long time! Partly because the food was really that good, but also because our little family of four was on an adventure, spending time together and just enjoying each other's company without the need to rush on to the next obligation.

That night we got to hang out along the Chattahoochee River. Jeff and Laura live in a complex right on the river. I was really taken by the beauty of it. The kids ran around catching fireflies and tossing rocks in the water.
