After running a few 5K's I started to feel like I was ready to step it up and challenge myself. There was a 10K coming up and it would be the only one for quite a while. I decided to sign up and start training for it and bought "real" running shoes. The big day came and I was nervous. I did not sleep well at all the night before, but there was no turning back. Steve and the girls came along to cheer me on which was awesome. Here is a picture of the three of us right before the start.

The run went well. There was a section about a mile long on a dirt road that was challenging, but the course was through a very beautiful golf community, so it was nice and scenic. There were even a few hot air balloons in the distance. I was struggling with a bit of knee pain in my last mile but really wanted to finish in under an hour so I persevered and tried to keep my pace up. Towards the very end of the course there was a guy who was always just a few paces ahead of me. As we got to the finish line, I heard my hubby and kids cheering for me, saw my mom (a surprise) and just kicked it into overdrive and passed the guy up and finished in 59:58.
It was such a awesome feeling! I'm so glad I did it and was so relieved it was over!
Blowing a kiss to my cheering section as I get started.

This event also had a kiddie dash so Brooke and Ali got to run in their very own shorter version.
