Lake Eola Swan Round-Up

For the past three or so years, Wildlife Solutions has been participating in the Lake Eola Swan Round-up. This is an annual event where the downtown Orlando swans are given medical care, get the wings clipped, get weighed, etc. It's always sounded like a fun day to participate in and something has always kept me from getting to participate in the past. Luckily things worked out this year and I got to volunteer.

Here we are heading out onto Lake Eola. There were about 32 kayaking volunteers to help "push" the swans toward the east side of the lake where they would be kept in a holding pen until they received their medical care and were then returned to the water. Steve is ahead of me on the right in this picture.

In this picture you can kind of see the line of kayaks making their way to the east side of the lake. The swans were reluctant but eventually realized they had no other choice. There was one who flew over our heads and eventually away from the lake.

The swans are placed inside these purple bags which restrain them while they get the care they need.

The whole experience was a lot of fun and I'm glad I finally got to participate.
