I have become a University of Miami fan by marriage. Steve's brother Ken graduated from there and is a die-hard fan of their football program. Steve has been a big follower of their football season for as long as I've known him and over time, I've gotten into the excitement of it all too (I must admit, it's a lot more exciting than UCF football, which would be my other option). The biggest game of the season for us is always the game against FSU. It's a big rivalry and never fails to disappoint. Over labor day weekend, the three of us drove up to Tallahassee for the game opener. Actually, I should say the four of us since Raza, our calf, came with us. This was not my idea of course, but Steve was sure he could find a way to attend the game and keep his calf bottle-fed at the same time. We got to our hotel, got Raza loaded on the luggage cart and didn't even make it to our room without getting discovered.
Since we weren't the home team there were plenty of FSU fans along the walk to the stadium eager to inform us of the beating they were ready to deliver. We knew we were not favored to win, but still hopeful! The game didn't start until 8 pm and we had great weather. This sunset picture is God smiling down on UM fans! :)
The game was awesome and did not disappoint. There were so many lead changes and I think we stood up for most of the game. And if you don't know by now, Miami won and FSU fans got very quiet that night. It was a great game and even Bobby Bowden said it was the third most exciting game he's ever coached. Definitely worth the drive, although I don't know if Raza would agree.
I can now say that I know someone who took a calf on a road trip and stayed with that calf at a hotel. Do hotels have rules about calves? I know they do on dogs, but calves? I mean, who would think you'd need to have a calf rule?? I love it!!
